CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The Panthers have announced they've made a move at tight end, signing Joe Jon Finley and waiving Tarren Lloyd.

The 6-foot-6, 251-pound Finley spent last season with the Detroit Lions. He was inactive for two games in 2011 after spending all of the 2010 season on the Lions practice squad.

Finley entered the NFL in 2008 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oklahoma with the San Francisco 49ers and spent two seasons as a member of the team's practice squad.

The Panthers return Greg Olsen, Gary Barnidge and Ben Hartsock at tight end this season, but have not re-signed free agent Jeremy Shockey.
