Charlotte's new field house named after Halton

CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The Charlotte 49ers football field house has a new name -- Halton Field House. That comes after a donation from Dale Halton, a long-time supporter of the college's athletic program. Charlotte's basketball and tennis facilities are also named after Halton.

The 46,150-square foot Halton Field House, due for completion in August, will be the home of the 49ers football program and will include locker rooms, coaches' offices, an academic center, a strength training suite and conference rooms.

Athletic director Judy Rose says, "Dale's was the first call I received after the trustees and the chancellor voted to add football.''

Charlotte's actively seeking a donor for naming rights for the football stadium.

The football field itself has already been after Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and banking industry pioneer Hugh McColl.
