C.J. Williams scored 15 points and North Carolina State avenged a loss to Georgia Tech last month, holding off the Yellow Jackets 61-52 Thursday night. The Wolfpack got a typically balanced scoring attack, with three other players in double figures. Kammeon Holsey had 17 points for Georgia Tech, which couldn't overcome 32 percent shooting, including 1-for-17 from 3-point range.

Freshman Austin Rivers buried a 3-pointer at the horn to give No. 10 Duke an 85-84 win over No. 5 North Carolina on Wednesday night. Rivers scored a season-high 29 points and hit six 3s, though the last will certainly live on in the lore on the fierce rivalry. With the Blue Devils (20-4, 7-2) trailing by two, Rivers launched a 3 over 7-footer Tyler Zeller from the right wing.

Mike Scott made all nine of his shots and scored 19 points to lead No. 19 Virginia to a 68-44 win over Wake Forest on Wednesday night. Guard Joe Harris added 11 points and three other players were in double figures for the Cavaliers (19-4, 6-3 Atlantic Coast), who ended a six-game losing skid at the hands of the Demon Deacons.

Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton has been to New York to visit with doctors for Major League Baseball and the players' association following his admitted relapse with alcohol. General manager Jon Daniels says Hamilton was accompanied to New York on Monday by Shayne Kelley, the team's newly hired major league staff assistant whose job will include being in a support role for Hamilton.

Sebastian Koch scored a season-high 21 points to lead Elon to an 82-59 victory over Appalachian State in a Southern Conference game Monday night. The sophomore guard made 4 of 7 shots from 3-point range for the Phoenix. Elon has won three straight since losing to the Mountaineers on Jan. 28. In that game, Appalachian State shot 76 percent in the second half while beating the Phoenix for the seventh straight time.

JP Kuhlman scored 14 points and Davidson took control early in a 76-54 Southern Conference win over Wofford on Monday night, sweeping the season series. Tied at 9 with 14:04 to go in the first half, the Wildcats went on a 19-2 run to lead 28-11 at the 3:30 mark.

For the third consecutive year, the Super Bowl has set a record as the most-watched television show in U.S. history. The Nielsen Co. said Monday that an estimated 111.3 million people watched the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots on Sunday night. That narrowly beat the 111 million who watched Green Bay's win over Pittsburgh last year.

Reggie Johnson scored five of his career-high 27 points in overtime and Miami upset No. 7 Duke 78-74 on Sunday. Kenny Kadji added 15 points for the Hurricanes, who blew a 16-point lead in the second half, then regrouped to claim their first victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium and just their second win over Duke since joining the ACC.
