CHARLOTTE -- Monday has been a busy first day on the job for new CMS superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison.

He is spending the day on a whirlwind trip around the district, visiting schools and speaking with students, teachers, and administrators.

It appears Dr. Morrison is certainly hitting the ground running. Then again, he is walking into a very long to-do list.

He said Monday's tours help put a face to the pressing issues the district is dealing with, namely the budget.

Since Gov. Bev Perdue vetoed the proposed state budget, a lot of things are up in the air for CMS right now.

He says there are a number of options on the table but if lawmakers cannot reach some kind of compromise, the district could lose millions in funding.

Even with this back-and-forth, he is still hopeful the final plan will still allow for pay raises for CMS employees, but things are still very uncertain.

In addition to the budget, he says he is already in talks about the start of the new school year as well as how the Democratic National Convention will factor in to that.
