Dr. Heath Morrison, the new superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, unveiled what he called his entry plan Friday morning. In the 14-page document, Morrison sets out his goals and pre-entry and entry actions for each of those items.

A Johnston County teacher and wrestling coach accused of having sexual contact with a student with was back in court Thursday for a probable cause hearing. The 16-year-old accuser testified in graphic detail about their encounter.

Debate has begun on a proposal aimed making some sweeping changes in North Carolina's educational system. Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger is sponsoring the proposal, which would do everything from grading schools based on performance to setting additional standards for teacher licensure.

The Winston-Salem-Forsyth County School Board decided Tuesday night to postpone a vote on altering future school calendars. The proposed changes would start instruction in early August instead of late August and would end classes in late May instead of early June.

Two students will be disciplined after a fight on a bus heading to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school Friday morning. Officials say two girls started fighting on the bus bringing students to Alexander Graham Middle School on Runnymede Lane.

Wake County school officials say they're inspecting the school bus involved in an incident Wednesday where several Wendell Middle School students were treated for burns. Officials say 30 to 35 students were on board when the driver noticed steam or smoke coming from underneath the bus.

A Wake Forest-Rolesville High School student is charged with assaulting two school employees and resisting officers Thursday. Wake County school officials say 18-year-old Patrick Jones pushed both the assistant principal and a school security officer who were trying to prevent him from starting a fight. No one was injured.

Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools say a teacher assistant found the unloaded .22-caliber gun in some bushes under some leaves at Collinswood Language Academy off Scaleybark Road. Police are trying to determine if the gun had been stolen.

The Guilford County school board voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve a more than $626 million operating budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The board will present its adopted budget to county commissioners Thursday. Commissioners have until July 1 to approve the budget.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School board and Mecklenburg County commissioners came together Wednesday afternoon to discuss the budget. The two boards debated the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system's request for $27.5 million in additional funding from the county; primarily to give teachers and employees their first raises since the 2008-2009 school year.

Students at east carolina university put on their caps and gowns for graduation Friday. Dave McRae the CEO of Vidant Health and ECU graduate delivered the commencement speech in front of about 3,800 students in Dowdy Ficklen stadium. Recent graduates said they are overwhelmed with joy to be embarking on this new chapter in their lives.
