RALEIGH -- The state House gave final approval to a bill that is aimed at fixing the current state spending plan. North Carolina is about half way into its two-year budget and legislators typically make adjustments to the plan based on how much money has come into the state.

This year, there is some extra money that the Republican-led House has directed towards education and health and human services. But Democrats say it is not enough and this is just a continuation of a budget that they thought was bad last year.

"What happened has played out that our relative economic position to the rest of this nation has not improved, but since then has actually gotten worse," said Rep. Bill Faison, D-50th District.

After nearly 10 hours of debate the bill was approved on a 73 to 46 vote. It will now go to the Senate for consideration.
