CHARLOTTE -- Wednesday afternoon, Republican presidential front runner Mitt Romney made his first public appearance in North Carolina for the 2012 primary season. The former Massachusetts governor gave remarks near Bank of America Stadium. That's where Romney's opponent, President Barack Obama, will give his acceptance speech at September's Democratic National Convention.

In his brief remarks, Romney poked holes in many promises Obama made in his candidate acceptance speech in Denver in 2008. He said gas prices, tuition and health care costs have risen in his time in office despite his agenda to lower them.

"At some point he's got to acknowledge that this is his economy," said Romney.

Romney pointed out the slow economic recovery in North Carolina where the jobless rate has been stuck hovering near, at, or above double digits during the president's entire tenure in office.

"For three and a half years, we've had unemployment above 8 percent. He set the measure, he has failed by the measurements he set, you wont hear that at this convention," said Romney. "But you're going to hear it at ours, I'll tell you that."

While Romney is now on the ground in North Carolina, his campaign has yet to officially open any campaign offices in the state. That's compared to Obama's campaign which has more than a dozen such offices operating statewide.

Several recent polls show Romney and Obama neck and neck in North Carolina.
