WINSTON-SALEM — Members of the Patriot Guard stood in honor of a fallen Marine from Davidson County during a memorial service Friday in Winston-Salem.
Matthew Greeson, 33, died at a VA hospital in North Carolina after battling an illness he contracted during a tour in Iraq. Members of the Patriot Guard said it is important to honor those who serve.
"Unfortunately, at the rate World War II vets are dying everyday, we are having too many of their funerals; Vietnam vets, Koreans. As long as they served in the military and was honorably discharged, we stand in respect for them," said Patriot Guard Rider Gary Trosper.
Greeson leaves behind a wife, an 11-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.
