CHARLOTTE – A big win for the Lynx Blue Line and Charlotte's historic South End as police take three of the most prominent graffiti artists off the streets.
CMPD say three teens are responsible for tens of thousands of dollars in damage in the area.
The bust started with an alert light rail operator catching two of the suspects in the act.
During the course of the investigation detectives arrested the alleged ringleader of the group.
Police say the three are responsible for more than 1,000 graffiti incidents in the area, noting this bust should make a big difference in the city's fight against the costly problem.
“The customers ride around and they don't want to see all that negative stuff on the line,” said Rena Vethea, Lynx operator. “Charlotte is such a beautiful city, and we're trying to keep it that way.”
Police note this kind of bust is very rare because graffiti artists act so quickly.
