WINSTON-SALEM--The Wake Forest women's soccer team is coming off of their most successful season in school history. They are hoping to have a repeat of their college cup run from 2011.
But first things first, there is an ACC championship in the immediate future to go after.
The lady Deacs enter this weekend's semi finals of the ACC championships looking for their second tournament crown in the last three years. And even with the recent success head coach Tony Da Luza has had with his program, this team is special.
“They really performed in big games. The bigger the game it seemed like everybody rose to the occasion. That is what happened last Sunday I think against Duke in the first round of the ACC tournament. Going into this weekend I think everybody is really excited to perform,” said Luza.
Stengel, who will go down as one of the most accomplished soccer players in Wake Forest history, missed the first 10 games of the season due to responsibilities with Team USA but it was a humbling experience for her which has helped her team at the perfect time.
Wake Forest did not come away with the ACC tournament crown last year, but they did make their first-ever appearance to the Women's College Cup. However wins going into their 17th consecutive NCAA appearance will be important.
