MATTHEWS — A handful of small towns could be joining forces.
Leaders from Stallings, Indian Trail, Mint Hill, and Matthews are discussing the creation of a joint economic development team to help retain and lure businesses to the area. Matthews Mayor Tim Taylor said the towns have similar economic needs and he thinks it's better to work together than against each other.
"It is important to be competitive in the environment and anything we can do to bring future business and retain businesses we have in town. It isn't just beneficial to the town of Matthews but for the other three towns as well,” said Taylor.
Indian trail town manager Joe Fivas said the collaboration will help towns with limited staffing and resources. He said they have already discussed partnering together to build a business park and share the tax revenue.
Fivas said their studying the multi-municipality economic partnership that exists in northern Mecklenburg County.
