CHARLOTTE--The Humane Society of Charlotte is quickly becoming a hub for help in the region.
Within the last two years, it has assisted with more than triple the number of disaster and cruelty cases outside Charlotte than it has before.
Humane Society of Charlotte President Shelly Moore said the organization is being called upon more often because more cruelty cases are being reported and they have a staff that is trained to assist.
“We've kind of become the go to organization in these situations to go in and help with the extraction of these animals from these large scale operations like triage evaluation and treating anyone that needs immediate care,” said Moore.
Moore said the organization will only assist other areas as long as it does not jeopardize local assistance or displace locally sheltered animals.
