CHARLOTTE - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for three suspects wanted in a violent home invasion, one of the men impersonated a probation officer.
The incident happened around midnight Tuesday on Avalon Avenue. Police say a man dressed in police gear knocked on the door and identified himself as a probation officer. When the door opened, the suspect pulled three people outside and sprayed them with pepper spray.
During that time, two other men stole money and a number of personal items from inside the home. All three suspects fled the scene toward Freedom Drive.
"They looked around the house real fast. They were in there less than a minute and then left,” said Lt. Blake Hollar of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Hollar said an 8-year-old child was inside at the time but was not injured. The three victims were treated at the scene.
"We've got to keep our eyes out now, looking out for each other," said Robert Session, who lives across the street.
According to investigators, the family had just moved in a few days ago and think the suspects planned on robbing the previous tenants.
"They were wearing some kind of a dark shirt with what appeared to be a badge, but the family did not get a really good look at it when they were looking out the door to see who it was," said Hollar.
