HIGH POINT -- If all goes according to plan, Tulsa-based debt-collection agency CFS II could be locating its next call center at a building on Federal Drive in High Point.
"We're looking to hire anywhere from 500 to 2,000 employees in North Carolina,'' said CEO Bill Bartmann.
Good news for employees at NCO Customer Management, which is closing its call center in the building by the end of August, putting nearly 700 out of work.
"The key ingredient in North Carolina is you have a very high unemployment rate, which means you have a very large job pool," said Bartmann.
And many would find the pay at C-F-S II attractive.
"$23 an hour minimum, is our stating position," said Bartmann, "then we have managerial positions that would obviously be much higher than that."
Locations in Winston-Salem at Madison Park Business Center on Hanes Mill Road and in Greensboro on Regional Road are also under consideration. Bartmann will be in Charlotte Wednesday, looking at three different locations.
While there's available space and a workforce, the company's also looking for state and local incentives.
"They're relevant. It's a three-legged stool. All three legs have to be in place, no one leg is more important than the other,'' said Bartmann.
And with the last few years economy, the company is looking at expanding in four other states -- including Virginia and Florida.
"Our company is very unique, we are in the debt assistance business. We purchase debt from major U.S. banks, typically credit card debt, and then we work with that customer, not only to resolve the instant debt, but all of their debt,'' said Bartmann.
The company hopes to start hiring around the end of the summer.
