CHARLOTTE — Some Charlotte teenagers learned about the dangers of texting and driving.
Allstate insurance brought its safe driving challenge course to the Metrolina Expo Thursday. The goal of the program is to teach kids about the importance of focusing on the road while behind the wheel.
The cars have a camera installed to capture their attempts at driving while talking on the phone, listening to loud music, and texting on their cellular phone.
"We would rather have them make mistakes on a course like this than on the roadway and we encourage the parents to participate as well and learn so they can be good examples with safe driving techniques for their teens," said Allstate spokseperson John Heid.
Allstate says inexperienced drivers under the age of 20-years-old are the most likely to be involved in distraction-related deadly crashes.
