WILMINGTON – A homicide detective who solved a well-known kidnapping and murder cold case more than a quarter of a century old shares his perseverance with families of missing persons.

During the Community United Effort's 2011 Conference For Missing Persons, Joe Matthews told the crowd how he re-examined the abduction of 6-year-old Adam Walsh in a new light. Walsh's kidnapping in 1981 prompted his parents, John and Reve, to create "America's Most Wanted.”

Matthews encourages families to examine the way law enforcement handles their loved one's case.

"It gives them the ability to have questions for law enforcement, to find out if they're doing what they should be doing. Sometimes when a case gets cold, everything gets cold."

Matthews shares the story of his relentless investigation in a book called "Bringing Adam Home,” which was released last month.

Forty percent of proceeds from book sales made at the conference and at Two Sisters Bookery in the Cotton Exchange will benefit the Cue Center.
