FORT BRAGG – The court martial of an Army sergeant accused of hazing a private because of his Chinese heritage has been delayed until Tuesday afternoon.

The trial for Sgt. Adam Holcomb, of Ohio, one of eight soldiers charged with negligent homicide of 19-year-old Pvt. Danny Chen, was originally scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. but will now begin at 1 p.m. The Army gave no explanation for the delay.

Chen was stationed out of Fort Wainwright in Alaska, but was under the command of a Fort Bragg general.

Chen was found killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a guardhouse in Afghanistan on Oct. 3. His family says he was called names while in training then was subject to hazing after he was deployed to Afghanistan.

Holcomb faces a negligent homicide charge along with several other charges. If convicted of all of them, he could face up to 18 years in prison.

Chinese-Americans have traveled from around the county to North Carolina to attend the trial and stand behind Chen and his family.
