RALEIGH – Nearly seven decades after the end of World War II, more than 125 veterans from the Triangle get the chance to visit the memorial in the nation's capital created in their honor. The Triangle's Flight of Honor program will make its final flight Wednesday.

The veterans will receive a water salute sendoff from RDU and then in Washington, D.C., they will visit the World War II Memorial.

“Really, the ones we ought to be honoring today are those in the cemeteries over in England, France and Germany and in the Pacific. I look up to them as my heroes,” veteran John Little said.

The welcome home ceremony is set for 8 p.m.

The Flight of Honor program is supported by community donations and sends the veterans to Washington at no cost to the military heroes.
