Over three days, more than 100 ill, wounded and injured veterans and active duty service members are competing in a variety of paralympic-style sporting events. The first day of competition got underway at the Dean Smith Center at UNC Chapel Hill.

Despite the rain, All American Week on Fort Bragg began on Monday. Around 19,000 soldiers are participating in this year's events. The traditions have been taking place for over 25 years on-base, but for the first time in several years, the entire 82nd Airborne Division was there to participate.

More than 2,500 people crowded the streets of Jacksonville on Saturday morning for the eighth annual Run for the Warriors, hosted by Hope for the Warriors, a nonprofit that helps wounded, ill and injured service members re-cooperate from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The latest aircraft to be welcomed into the the Marine Corps family is making its way to Cherry Point this summer. Fleet Readiness Center - East is expected to receive its first F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jet in July.

Getting veterans back to work is the goal of the United Service Organization as it opens its doors Friday to servicemen and women for Operation Military Job Fair. The USO is teaming up with ECPI University to hold the fair.

One hundred-sixty Marines from across the nation left from Camp Lejeune Thursday for a unique mission in Afghanistan. Military leaders describe the mission as one that is supposed to save the Marine Corps millions of dollars.

The North Carolina Attorney General visited Camp Lejeune to talk to Marines about business fraud. Attorney General Roy Cooper said members of the military are often easy targets for con artists and scammers.

Furloughs for the Department of Defense civilian employees will begin July 8. Defense secretary Chuck Hagel made the announcement Tuesday at a town hall event in Alexandria Virginia. Over 600,000 employees will face 11 unpaid days off nationwide.

The U.S. Marine Corps announced Monday that Capt. James V. Clement will be tried for dereliction of duty, conduct unbecoming an officer and failure to stop misconduct by those under his command. The charges were referred for trial following an evidentiary hearing held last month at Camp Lejeune.

Veterans from all over North Carolina are once again coming together to celebrate their military service and the receipt of a military honor most servicemen will never know. Each is a recipient of the Purple Heart, the military award received after being wounded in the line of duty.
