Monday morning a group of World War II veterans in gathered in Morehead City and the hot topic was the upcoming honor flight. Many of those veterans have visited the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. but Veterans Affairs officer Hank Gotard says there are many more who haven't.

Nearly 1,000 Marines and Sailors returned to American soil Sunday. They are part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit that spent the last 10 months at sea supporting U.S. operations abroad.

Nearly 50 Marines are back home in North Carolina following a nearly seven month deployment in Afghanistan. Friends and family welcomed back Marine aerial refueler transport squadron 252 at MCAS-Cherry Point, on Saturday. The squadron, also known as Otis, is the oldest continually active squadron in the Marine Corps.

The Army psychiatrist charged with killing 13 people on Fort Hood in Texas in 2009 is seeking a delay of his court martial in a hearing Thursday. Lawyers for Army Maj. Nidal Hassan said they need more time to prepare. Maj. Hasan faces 45 counts of murder or attempted murder and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

It was a day of celebration on Fort Bragg Thursday as thousands of soldiers celebrated their homecoming. Thursday morning they participated in the Return Run before the afternoon's Return Ceremony honoring the 18th Airborne.

One of the largest amphibious military exercises in the past decade is taking place along the North Carolina coast. Operation Bold Alligator is training thousands of Marine and Naval forces in a two-week-long war scenario that will culminate with a full scale beach assault on Onslow Beach at Camp Lejeune.

A new exhibit in the Onslow County museum showcases the earliest years of Camp Lejeune starting with the acquisition of land for the base. Many of the artifacts and photographs have never been on display before. Some of the rarely seen photos show the War Dog program.

The N.C. Veterans Park re-opens Thursday in Fayetteville. It is the first state park dedicated to Military veterans. The park is located next to the city's Airborne and Special Operations Museum. The park has been closed since Jan. 3 for the installation of a new floor inside the building.

On Jan. 28 the new visitor's center and main gate will open aboard Camp Lejeune. This will improve access for visitors and security for the base.

Preparations are under way for the Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation Annual Gala. The fundraiser will celebration the 100th anniversary of Marine Corps Aviation. The Gala will take place on Jan. 27 at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.
