DURHAM β Ground was broken for a new vaccine facility in Research Triangle Park on Friday morning.
Medicago will bring 85 jobs to the area and is expected to produce about 10 million influenza vaccines per month. Sen. Kay Hagan was on hand for the ceremony and said as the state and country to struggle to create new jobs this new business is an important addition to RTP.
βIt's the fact that we will have this facility here in North Carolina, here in RTP, which is really an incubator for so many businesses that have started small and have grown big. And this is 85 jobs,β said Hagan.
Medicago got a $21 million grant from the Department of Defense to help build the 87,000 sq. ft. property. It could also get matching state and Durham county grants of about $128,000 if it reaches its job targets.
