RALEIGH — The threat of wet weather forced organizers to cut the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic short on Sunday.

Some players were pulled off the Lonnie Poole golf course in Raleigh before finishing their round. NC State men's basketball coach Sidney Lowe played for Coach Valvano during the Wolfpack's national championship run in 1983 and said this year's tournament hit closer to home.

"Just all the things that Coach V means to so many people and this event and what his brother Nick has done has been tremendous. It's also close to my heart because my sister, Francis, was just diagnosed with it. It just touches so many of us that I'm just glad I can be a part of it," said Lowe.

The V Foundation has raised more than $100 million for cancer research.
