RALEIGH— The 17th Annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf classic wrapped up Sunday afternoon.
The event raises much-needed funds for cancer research in honor of legendary NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. The purpose is not only to raise money but also to raise awareness.
The executive director of the Jimmy V Celebrity Gold Classic, Frank McCain, was present at the post-game awards dinner that was held at NC State University's Alumni Center.
“It's like a family but everybody looks to top the other people. And we're giving out portraits to all the folks and trophies as well,” said McCain.
McCain said that the V Foundation recently topped the $100 million mark, which was a tremendous accomplishment. In the 17 years it has been around, the Gold Classic itself has raised almost $15 million. MCCain said the goal for the week is $400,000 and they are hopeful to achieve that.
