APEX, N.C. -- Severe weather sparked a town home fire in Apex early Thursday morning.

Lightning struck the home on Watertree Lane around 1:30 a.m. No one was home at the time, but two cats and a dog were rescued from the town house.

Officials say they were able to contain the fire without damaging any surrounding units.
