DURHAM -- Tiny strangers are causing quite a buzz in Durham. There have been multiple reports of little gnome statues quietly popping up around the city.

So far, they've been spotted on I-85, under an overpass on Blackwell Street and on Morehead Avenue. No one knows where they're coming from.

"I noticed it kind of laying down going near the mall, and I thought how did someone drive up under there and get this thing up there?" said Cynthia Bizzell, a resident of Durham.

The invaders are also now viral. There's a blog and Web site dedicated to the gnomes.
