RALEIGH -- Gov. Bev Perdue on Thursday signed the film incentives bill, which raises the tax credit for movie makers from 15 to 25 percent. To be eligible for the incentive, companies would have to spend at least $250,000 in North Carolina.
Perdue said the state has lost more than 20 big productions in the last few years -- most recently, a Miley Cyrus movie to the state of Georgia -- and she wants the state to remain competitive in the film industry to bring more jobs to North Carolina.
"We've turned a page in North Carolina's film history and that's really important because this is an industry we can continue to win big in,” the governor said.
The industry employs more than 2,500 people statewide.
Bill 943 takes effect in January.
