FOUR OAKS, N.C. -- A Johnston County man will now spend more than 16 years behind bars for hitting and killed a boy with his vehicle. Hipolito Hernandez was found guilty on Thursday of second-degree murder and DWI for the death of 7-year-old Marcus Lassiter.

The accident happened on Heath Road near Four Oaks last April. Police say Hernandez was speeding and drunk when he hit Lassiter on the side of the road. Police say it was Hernandez’s fourth DWI charge and he had never been convicted.

Authorities think Hernandez is in the country illegally from Mexico. He will likely face deportation after completing his sentence.
