Murdered mother's family files suit
Michelle Young with her daughter, Cassie
RALEIGH -- Two years after her brutal murder, Michelle Young's mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Young's husband.
Young was found beaten to death in her Raleigh home in November 2006. She was pregnant at the time. Authorities never named a suspect, although search warrants show investigators focused much of their attention on Young's husband.
Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said investigators are still assigned to the case full time.

But her mother, Linda Fisher, believes her daughter's husband Jason Young is responsible for her murder. Her lawyers filed a lawsuit against Jason Young, requesting that he be banned from receiving his wife's insurance benefits. It also asks for $10,000 in compensation.
"Our client, Linda Fisher, wants to make sure that her granddaughter Cassidy is the sole heir of Michelle's estate," Jack Michaels, one of Linda Fisher's attorneys, said.
Fisher's attorneys said they will rely heavily on the work done by criminal investigators over the past two years. They also say they've seen evidence they believe will prove Jason Young is responsible for his wife's death.
"We feel good about being able prove our case, and really, we'll just leave it at that," Michael's said.
Harrison said he expected the suit was coming.
"I think it was due and the right thing to do," Harrison said. "We're not going to comment on it because we have an ongoing criminal investigation, but I can assure you we'll be monitoring it very closely."
He said the lawsuit may shed some light on the work investigators have already completed, but he said he's not sure when any arrests will be made.
"There's still some stuff out there that we want to clarify," Harrison said. "And, we're still running down witnesses and we're running down leads. So, we just don't know."
Lawyers said the lawsuit was not filed at the urging of the district attorney or sheriff's office.
Jason Young's current attorney did not respond to calls made to his office.
