ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. -- Financial documents released by Roanoke Rapids shows that city money intended to help start the Randy Parton Theatre was spent on alcohol and tickets to Las Vegas shows.

The documents show how the brother of country music star Dolly Parton spent some of the first $254,000 of a $3 million reserve fund he was given to start the theater on Interstate 95.

Nearly $2.5 million of the fund was spent in the first two years.

Mayor Drewery Beale says some expenses don't look right, especially the alcohol and trips to Las Vegas.

The city borrowed more than $21 million to build the theater to anchor a new entertainment complex to boost the struggling economy of northeastern North Carolina.

Roanoke Rapids took control of the theater last month.
