GREENSBORO — There is more bad news on the home front, as Triad home sales are down again.
The North Carolina Association of Realtors said sales dropped 24-percent last month compared to the same time last year. However, some homeowners have found a way around the slump—simply by upgrading.
Last year, homeowner Tammy Roberts decided to remodel her home and added 1,100 square feet of additional space, including a 2-car garage, granite in the kitchen, home theater and outdoor living space complete with a stone fireplace.
“This is probably more than a typical homeowner would do. But if you're in a situation where you want to upgrade to the next level house and you either can't sell yours or you don't want to sell yours you love your location," said Roberts.
The price tag for all these upgrades? A cool $200,000. But Roberts says you don't have to break the bank to give your home a makeover. Adding trim, nice archways, heavier moldings, or columns are a few of the less expensive upgrades.
This is the 13th year the Greensboro Builder's Association has held the tour of remodeled homes. If you'd like to check it out, it runs through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. everyday. Tickets are $10 to get in.
