GREENSBORO -- Since its inception in 1938, the Wyndham Championship has been played on three different courses in Greensboro: Starmount, Sedgefield and Forest Oaks.

The tournament returned to Sedgefield in 2008. The course continues to improve each year and preparations for this year's championship are under way.

"We are obviously building the course out right now, putting up bleachers, sky boxes, luxury suites, tents," said Wyndham Tournament Director, Mark Brazil.

The course underwent a major overhaul three years ago and has matured very well.

"The sod seams are disappearing. All the top dressing is paying off," said Keith Wood, the Sedgefield Course superintendent. "We're really expecting the balls to be able to roll smoothly off the greens and the green surrounds. We have to reset how we mow the golf course. A lot of those are set now and it flows together very nicely."

The course setup worked well last year, so they aren't changing anything. The rain at last year's tournament did show the course drains well. If it rains this year, they'll squeegee any bird baths if needed.

It's a course that defending champ, Ryan Moore, feels very comfortable on.

"You go play some good golf, you can shoot five, six, seven under," said Moore. "It's out there. And it's kind of nice playing a course at the beginning of the day you know you can shoot a score on. But you have to plot your way around it very well or that's not going to happen."

The Wyndham Championship board is dedicated to constantly improving the tournament. That's why this year there are more additions for the fans.

"One of the things we're including this year is the fan pavilion on the ninth green. It's almost like hospitality for the public," said Brazil.

"We have implemented a better kids zone and an extra inflatable so more kids can have fun in that. We're just always trying to figure out what kind of experience we can provide for just the average fan."

In a major addition this year, fans will be allowed to bring in their cell phones. But they will have to keep their phone on vibrate or silent and are not permitted to use them anywhere near play. Fans will also not be able to take still pictures or videos after Wednesday.

The PGA Tour is testing this throughout the tournament week in regards to potential use of mobile devices at future PGA Tour events.

Some of the week's events will showcase the Kevin Harvick Foundation Pro Am with several NASCAR drivers and show cars as well as concerts by Kool and the Gang and Edwin McCain.

Another change this year will also be more accessible parking.
