WINSTON-SALEM – The stress of the 2010-2011 budget is already weighing on the shoulders of school leaders in Forsyth County.
Tuesday, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools finance director ran down a long list of ways to cut millions, including cuts to assistant principal positions and the possibility of employee furloughs.
"This group of employees would include assistant principals, some of our school office clerical positions, a few of our counselor positions and a few of our lead teacher positions," Finance Director Kerry Crutchfield said.
Board members said they would like to have more work sessions over the next few weeks to talk about the options.
"It just seems to me we're going to show up at a finance committee meeting with a list of cuts which has sort of been suggested by staff that we agree on which we haven't struggled with on any other issues. I would like to know what's on that cutting room floor and I'd also like to be able to point out areas that I thought we could do better in," board member Buddy Collins said.
The School Board will make it's final decision on the 2010-2011 budget at the end of April.
