WENTWORTH, N.C. -- A Rockingham County man was in court Wednesday, answering to charges of threatening to kill the president.

Investigators say in July, 44-year-old Steve Stone called an emergency dispatcher and said he planned to assassinate President Obama. The sheriff’s office reported the calls to the Secret Service, who helped track Stone down after he called a second time and again threatened the president some 24 hours later.

Deputies say they had to use a Taser to subdue Stone because he resisted arrest. He received two 45-day sentences, which were suspended while he serves 18 months probation.
