GREENSBORO – With the PGA Tour making a stop in Greensboro, one environmentally-friendly program took advantage of the attention brought by the 2009 Wyndham Championship to enlighten attendees.

The Living Zero Exhibit is a life-sized model of a small house, complete with a kitchen and living space. It’s commissioned by the U.S Department of Energy as a way to show people how they can live greener lives.

"Throughout your whole entire home, from your water heater to your washer and dryer combination to even things like your windows, [everything] uses energy and can save energy,” explained Jordan Price, tour manager of Living Zero.

It’s Price’s job, along with a team of experts, to show attendees how to save that energy.

"Forty-three percent of your energy bill goes toward heating and air throughout your home,” said Price. “So, if your home's not heated properly, that's money you're throwing away through the walls and windows."

During the demonstration, Price shows people how effective various insulations are, the importance of using fluorescent light bulbs and how installing sustainable material like bamboo floors instead of wood can help out.

The home in Greensboro is in the first leg of a 17-city, 40,000 mile national tour that has already made stops in Chicago and New York.

"Ninety-thousand people are going to walk through this home the next couple of days,” said Price. “So, if we reach just a handful of those, it will make that much of a difference if we reach just a handful of those."

The tour is open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. now until Sunday.
