RALEIGH -- Gov. Mike Easley will sign stricter punishments for child sex offenders in to law on Monday.

Easley will sign the bill in Gastonia, as the girl the legislation is named after was from Gaston County. She was raped and killed in 2005.
The law imposes harsher penalties on those who commit sex crimes against children under the age of 13. First, they’ll face at least 25 years in prison. Then, if they are released the individual would be monitored by GPS for the rest of their lives.
Easley will be joined by Lunsford’s father Mark when he signs the bill at 2 p.m. Stay tuned to News 14 Carolina for coverage of the event.
