FAYETTEVILLE — Police are asking the community for their help after three separate shooting incidents this week in the Murchison Road area near Fayetteville State University.

The first happened on Sunday when a man was shot in the buttocks at a university apartment complex. On Monday night officials said Jamaal Demetruis Johnson, 21, of Fayetteville exchanged gunfire with a police officer on coley drive after he jumped from a reported stolen car. On Wednesday night three people were injured near the intersection of Edgar and Amye Streets in an apparent drive by shooting.

Fayetteville police Crime Prevention Specialist Michelle Lindo said the area has several active community watch groups, but she urges all residents to take part in stopping crime in their neighborhoods.

“We always tell them to report any suspicious activity. In situations like this we will provide suspect information if any is given and ask them to look out and do what they do. give us a call and report that information to 911,” said Lindo.

Police said last night's drive-by shooting was gang related and the victims knew their attackers. All three of them have been released from the hospital. Only one of them has decided to press charges.
