Phillip Coffelt

FAYETTEVILLE – A Cumberland County high school teacher has been arrested and charged with sex crimes involving a student.

Sheriff’s investigators say 33-year-old Phillip Coffelt was sexually involved with a 17-year-old girl. Coffelt is a teacher at Terry Sanford High School.

Officials say the encounters happened at Coffelt’s home in Fayetteville between February and April this year. The teacher is being held under a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to make a first court appearance Monday.
