TABOR CITY, N.C. – Recreational vehicles are taking back to the highways for Easter this year. And camp ground owners said business is picking up thanks to lower gas prices.

For a family on a budget, vacationing in an RV can save a lot of money. RV owner Bobby Miller said he likes to take his family out.

"There are no extra fees or entertainment fees once you get here. So, you bring your own food, cook out and make it a family event."

Curtis Bradley and his friend decided to pack up his boat and head south for some fishing to kick off a long holiday weekend. They were looking to escape the snow and ice in Rochester, New York. Low gas prices helped encourage their trip.

"If gas was $4, we would have been staying home because we filled up the tank five times in just getting here," Bradley said.

RV park owners said business has been better than expected. Last year, high gas prices meant more travelers opted to leave their RVs parked. Owners said Easter is traditionally the start of the RV season.

Cooler weather is also having an effect on camping. Rick Coleman, owner of Yogi Bear's at Daddy Joe's, said some customers are already coming back.

"Ironically, a lot of our cabins this year have been families that [came in RVs] but have chosen to sell their RV and now are coming back and staying in our cabins," he said.

Another trend camp owners are seeing is that are people are taking less trips. But when they do take a vacation, it's for a longer period of time.
