SPRING LAKE, N.C. – The town of Spring Lake is thinking of switching to a four-day work week, citing the green movement as a reason to change their schedule.
A four-day work week, they said, would mean commuters would spend less on gas on their way to and from work, and the town could save on energy in other places.
“We have energy savings for our heating and cooling bill for having three days out of the week that we can lower those costs,” Spring Lake Human Resources Representative Debbie Disbrow said. “And it gives a lot more time for personal appointments, which of course reduces absenteeism.”
The town will extend its business hours by a half hour at the beginning and end of each day.
Disbrow said it will help residents who work a conventional work day get service.
Spring Lake’s Anthony Hill said he supports the decision to go to a four-day work week.
“As long as I’m able to pay my bills on time, and as long as the service, the customer service, is good, I don’t think there should be any problem,” Hill said.
And Hill said the decision would give town employees more time to spend with their families.
