The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass new rules at its meeting Monday night, restricting the number of pets people can keep. Pet owners living on less than a half acre could not have more than three dogs and apartment dwellers couldn't have more than two.

Authorities say 34-year-old Gracie Ramirez shot 23-year-old Jerry Martin Jr. in his front yard Saturday. Family members say the man was horsing around with his mother in the yard but Ramirez said she shot Martin because she thought he and his mother were fighting.

State lawmakers addressed the U.S Department of Justice's investigation, which claims North Carolina is in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Army to open 14,000 jobs for women

The U.S. Army will start to place women in nearly 14,000 combat related jobs. A new Defense Department policy was implemented that will open up six military occupational specialties and place women in 37 battalions across nine brigade combat teams. The policy will restrict women from serving in infantry, armor, and special operations forces, but will allow them to serve at the battalion level, which in the past has been considered too close to combat.

Army Staff Sergeant shot by Fayetteville police last week dies

An Army Staff Sergeant who was shot by a police officer in Fayetteville last week died Saturday. Fayetteville police say they received reports of Staff Sgt. Mark Salazar, 27, firing a handgun on Pacific Avenue on May 6. When he was approached by three officers, who ordered him to show his hands, Salazar did not comply. Officials say he was shot by one of the officers when he then raised the gun in their direction.
