JACKSONVILLE, N.C.--According to the Jacksonville Fire Department, arson destroyed a church early Thursday morning.
Wings of Faith Ministries had never held a service in their building but renovations were about 95 percent complete. Pastor and founder Joseph Morgan said they will rebuild at the site.
"This whole property, to include our daycare center, would have been something for the community and it would not just have been a church and the four walls but it would have been something that we could actually serve the community with the purpose of God," said Morgan.
The church will continue to operate out of a temporary location on Aragona Boulevard in Jacksonville. Assistant Fire Marshall Brain Kelly said the accidental causes like stray fireworks or electrical issues did not start the blaze.
"We're still working on the exact cause of the fire but yet we've ruled out everything else and we know that it was intentionally set. We're just putting the final puzzle pieces together," said Kelly.
The Jacksonville Fire Department is asking anyone with information regarding the fire to come forward.
