OAK ISLAND, N.C.--Authorities are still trying to figure out what caused a helicopter to crash on Oak Island earlier this week.

The helicopter went down around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, less than mile off shore.

Will Mistrot and Marty Kojimoto were the only people on board, and they escaped with minor injuries.

Witnesses on the beach said they were stunned.

"He got in this area and he dropped down probably 100 feet and I said, well maybe he is going to land, and he got in front of the pier and he just kept going and hit the water, made a big splash," said crash witness, Cass Safrit.

The FAA is investigating, but the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause of the crash.
