GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University officials met with contractor T.A. Loving on Tuesday to discuss how to repair failing bleachers in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium's newly opened expansion.

At ECU's home opener on Sunday, three to four rows of seating gave way injuring several spectators.

During the game, university officials removed about 30 other bleachers that showed signs of failing and allowed students to sit on the concrete where the bleachers were attached.

School officials say a new fix will prevent any future accidents.

"The way those seats are attached now is there is a triangular bracket and the seats sit out over space, we're actually going to take those seats, move them back to the back step and attached them directly to the concrete," said ECU's Bill Bagnell.

Campus officials say the new seating section that holds 7,000 people will be open for this weekend's home game against Memphis. However, some spectators may find themselves sitting on concrete if the bleacher repairs aren't completed in time.
