NEW BERN, N.C. – Mayor Lee Bettis was cleared of all charges in a Craven County courtroom Thursday.
Bettis was charged with two misdemeanors, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of assault on a female. The disorderly conduct charged was dropped during the hearing and a judge found him not guilty of assault on a female.
The charges stemmed from an incident that happened in June at a YMCA pool when Bettis got into an argument with a swim instructor.
