KINSTON, N.C. – Spirit Aerosystems, the world's largest independent supplier of commercial airplane parts, held a grand opening ceremony Thursday for a 500,000-square-foot plant at the Global Transpark in Kinston, N.C.
Employees at the facility will design parts for the Airbus A350 XWB.
Gov. Bev Perdue payed a visit to check out the new facility, and despite some delays, those involved say it's worth the wait. They say it will be a great deal for North Carolina since the company plans to add as many as 1,000 jobs.
200 people are expected to be hired by the end of the year.
More than $80 million in state and federal funding have already been poured into the Global Transpark. Officials spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the Spirit facility.
Design work for the facility took about two years.
