WILMINGTON – State troopers say distracted driving is to blame for the death of 21-year-old DOT worker Jonathan King, of Autreyville, Wednesday in Duplin County.
Authorities say a tractor-trailer hit him while he was setting up a work zone.
The driver, Ernest Harris, of Saint Pauls, said he took his eyes off the road for just a second before veering off the road and pinning King between two vehicles.
Harris now faces several charges, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
A second worker, Bradley Williams, was treated and released from Sampson Memorial Hospital.
