WILMINGTON – The pounding rain made for a difficult morning commute in Wilmington Monday.

The storm comes a week after flash floods forced hundreds to evacuate their apartments. Just like last week, Monday's rain flooded streets surrounding apartments along Racine Drive near UNC Wilmington.

This time, there wasn't enough water to call for evacuations. The storm also flooded several city streets, forcing Wilmington police to block them off.

Many residents say they're not used to dealing with so much water in such a short period of time.

"I went into class this morning and everybody was shaking their head because it's getting pretty ridiculous here lately," UNCW student Nolan Hall said.

"Really, I just kind of kept an eye on it to check," resident Sterling Beck said. "After it started coming down for a while, after what happened last week, I just checked to see if I needed to move my car."

Even after the rain let up, there were still many streets and parking lots around Wilmington left with standing water. Police and fire crews urged drivers to use extreme caution.
