WILMINGTON – The district attorney says Jessica Wishnask now faces charges of statutory rape and dissemination of harmful material after police said they found her in “intimate contact” with a 15-year-old in a parked car.

While it’s not clear whether the teen was a student of Wishnask’s, but he was a student during the same time Wishnask taught at Williston Middle School in Wilmington.

District Attorney Ben David said the new charges are not from a new incident.

“These charges only relate to conduct that occurred on or before May 23 of 2009, and I want to make that perfectly clear,” he said. “We aren’t talking about conduct involving other victims or conduct that post dates that May 23 incident.”

School administrators said Wishnask taught seventh grade language arts. The district suspended her twice during her two years there.

School officials said she then resigned from her post there in December before moving to another teaching job in Pitt County. She stepped down from that job after her arrest.

So far, the school district has declined to disclose the reasons for Wishnask’s suspensions.
