County rabies count surpasses 2008 total

WILMINGTON – New Hanover County Animal Control is investigating another rabies case, bringing the total to eight for the year.
That already surpasses last year’s total.
Officials say an Echo Lane resident saw his dog fighting with a raccoon over the weekend, which tested positive for rabies. Animal control is reminding all pet owners to have their dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies.
