Nearly two weeks after Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast, more than 150,000 customers in New York and New Jersey are still waiting for the lights to come back on.

Most of those, about 130,000, are customers of the Long Island Power Authority, which has been criticized for its response.

Those numbers don't include the thousands of homes that are too damaged to have electricity turned back on.

People who live on one New Jersey barrier island were finally able to return home.

Their once prized possessions were stacked on the street.

Neighbors on Long Beach Island said volunteers from Maryland and Washington D.C. have helped to rip up soaked carpet and remove heavy debris, but they have a lot of work ahead.
