CHARLOTTE – A building in uptown Charlotte's Third Ward is being demolished as part of the work for the new BB&T Ballpark for the Charlotte Knights.

The old Virginia Paper Co. building was supposed to be brought down Monday but the work was postponed.

For the Knights, the demolition puts the dream of a new uptown stadium a step closer.

"It's been a long process, but it's now very satisfying the project's getting underway and we're going to be able to play baseball [uptown] in April of 2014.,” said Jim Schumacher.

It will take several weeks for the building to be completely torn down but the ballpark is set to open in time for the 2014 season.
